Flash brought us a new grand for Fire and she is a big one. Let’s go over both her and her weapon as both are very strong.
Zeta
Zeta (Grand) is a very strong attacker geared both towards shorter and longer fights. She will likely see lots of use in NM95 and NM200.
For shorter fights, her main draw is her passive Sirius Light providing a strong auto nuke after every three TAs from fire allies. This will be triggered multiple times per turn in most bursts making her the strongest of the nuke after normal attack characters. The main drawback however is that she lacks any sort of TA without pressing her any of her buttons. This will either have to be reached via grid TA and rings or another TA source like Alanaan or Shiva. Do note if using Shiva, her nukes will consume Shiva’s assassin as it is not counted in her passive. Place her so that she will attack before she nukes if going that route.
For longer fights, she provides excellent amounts of sustained high damage. The buffs from Crimson Will on Furious Resonance are all excellent and being able to dispel on autos are very handy for a wide variety of fights. The high uptime on it plus Zeta’s skill cooldown cuts means she can maintain these strong buffs basically indefinitely. She also has a one turn assassin on Arvess Prelude / Arvess Fugue as long as you have 100% bar before pressing it. This is trivial requirement due to starting with 100% charge but is important to not forget for longer fights.
This strength in longer fights applies to burst, FA, and hard content pretty equally. She is a great slot in all. Her main conflict in extended bursts is having to rival Wilnas who deals incredible damage. But she is a much less finicky character than Wilnas and does not require always being paired with Michael or another Instant Charge character. This makes character selection a bit more free with her. When Alanaan’s FLB drops, she will be a strong contender to pair with him.
Overrider
Now onto her weapon Overrider. It is Fire’s Optimus Exalto weapon which immediately makes it noteworthy. The 30% boost to primal skills is very strong though does have the immediate limitation of requiring strong primal mods to play off of.
It introduces a new skill Deathstrike which grants big bonus damage to all fire allies. The base value of this skill is 4.5% unboosted. The cap on the value is 50%. Below are a few tables of the value of the echoes. Each assume Wilnas FLB and Michael as well as support Agni.
Double Agni
Copies | Echo |
1 | 22.08% |
2 | 46.8% |
Single Agni
1 | 15.3% |
2 | 33.3% |
3 | 50% |
Unboosted
1 | 8.55% |
2 | 19.8% |
3 | 33.75% |
The echo does not stack with Falsehood or Sol Remnant as they are all Side A echoes. Their echo values are listed below.
Sol Remnant | 10% |
Falsehood | 20% |
Generally a single one is weaker slot due to it not providing a signifant difference in bonus damage compared to those other sources of Side A echoes. There are some cases it could be used as seen further down but typically you’d lean towards the other options. At 2-3 copies it becomes strong enough for widespread grid usage.
The weapon also has a small crit component. This makes it pair well with the existing crit weapons. Typically this will exist as 2 Overrider and 2 Fist of Destruction or 3 Overrider, 1 Fist of Destruction, and 1 Benedia.
When looking at adding this to grids, the main target to look into replacing is Lord of Flames. This is primarily due to them only having low ATK mods that won’t recieve much of a boost from Optimus Exalto and the other slots being way more important for high damage.
Below are examples of a NM95 style burst grid. As you can see for both, LoF is severely limited or non existant. Particuarlly in this case, the setup uses Yatima main and operates on very little defense down. This makes emphasizing raw damage much more important than the increased cap LoF provides. You can also see the use of TA weapons to make sure MC and Zeta both can TA.
For a longer burst like NM150, the TA weapons are generally dropped focusing moreso on strong grid damage. Like before however, Lord of Flames are the choice to drop for more Overriders.
A major note to remember. Overrider grid HP is very low and has no built in defense. For NM95 and NM150 this likely won’t matter much thanks to the shorter duration of the fights and Percival’s skill 2 Percival (Grand)2 allowing for a safe turn. For NM200, FA, or hard content you will see Lord of Flames slotted again as the HP and defense are very needed. While Overrider does replace these weapons for NM95 and NM150, Lord of Flames is still a very strong and very useful weapon for a lot of applications.
quwatoro put out a video as well analyzing the usage of Overrider in grids. Feels free to check it out for further analysis.
Should I Spark?
If you are planning on going hard this GW, then it’s probably a good idea. Both Zeta and her weapon are very strong and will be dominant through much of this GW.
However, the next banner has this year’s providence summon 000. These summons are typically game changing and it is very likely 000 will be as well. If you can only spark on banner, I would save for legfest. Unfortunately 000 can not be sparked so you are not guarenteed it. The rate up though makes this your best shot to ever get it. Additionally, Uriel and Dragon also appealing new characters though neither will be anywhere as high of an immediate priority as Zeta or 000.
