Ewiyar Analysis

This is a guest article by maker of the wind guide Lolicore with assistance and research done by Cendol. Thank you two so much.

Ewiyar (Grand)

So with this banner, everyone’s favourite floofball finally gets a Grand version!

  • Skill 1: Appawlingly Adorable – This is one of her main selling points, inflicts teamwide Charmed and Charmed on foe at a 100% uptime as well, works with her passive which grants Charm immunity as long as she is in the frontline; units will keep attacking and they gain potent buffs while Charmed.
  • Skill 2: Wind Speed: 222 meows/s – Typical nuke skill, comes with an additional 1t cut to foes’ buff durations and 20% CB gain.
  • Skill 3: The Emerald’s Windfall – Like all other 6D skill 3s this is not recastable, gives self steroids to herself and grants random buffs to allies every turn:
    • 3t Revitalize
    • 3t Dodge Rate Up
    • 3t Supplemental DMG buff (100k)
    • On the 5th activation only: teamwide Double Strike.
  • Passive 1: All Your Praise Belongs to Me! – as mentioned at the start, as long as she is in the frontline she is immune to Charm and your team can still attack while Charmed. She also grants the following buffs to Charmed allies:
    • 30% ATK (Perpetuity)
    • 100% DEF
    • 100% DA
    • 30% TA
    • 10% Echo (A sided)
  • Passive 2: Limitless Emerald – as with all other 6D grands, she also has a Fated Chain effect on activation, all allies gain 1-time Guaranteed TA and 30% Echo.
Verdict

Ewiyar (Grand) has a pretty good kit for a 6D grand, however her echoes being A-sided hurts her viability in bursting setups quite a bit and as a result, she’s currently more suited for longer fights and an FA-oriented character. She could see some potential when Wind GW comes around for NM200 strats but too hard to say for now.

Now, should you spark her? – this is where it gets pretty funny because while she’s actually usable in FA, the weapon she’s tied to; Piercing Galewing, is the fourth of the “Pact” skill weapons released (50k unconditional supplemental DMG, 7% cap up weapons). Which then leads to………..

Piercing Galewing

As mentioned right above, this is the fourth “Pact” weapon released, we’ll go back to calling this a “PnS-tier weapon” or “Wind PnS” or simply Gale. So yeah why is this weapon funny? For starters, Wind grids did NOT really need a weapon like this to begin with. Galewings are currently in such an awkward spot (Magna grids included) because these weapons are not competing with Claiomh Solais Dion themselves (generally, you use them both together), but they are competing with your supplemental DMG slot and cap up slot – which would normally house the 2nd Creepy Claw, ATK awakening Mandjet, ATK awakening Abu Simbel or Qinglong Spear Malus – the latter of which you’re also trading 3% general cap up for, since Malus at skill level 20 nets 10% general cap up.

Consider the following: assume Demonbream is called, putting my HP% at 45, using my grid which revolves around Destiny Knuckles (x2), Celine Dions (x2-3), Creepy Claws, with the usual Ultima and Opus forming the basis of this grid; what happens if you replace the ATK awakening Abu Simbel with Galewing?

It leads to an estimated DMG loss if you replace Abu Simbel with Galewing – but what about Malus?

Still a DMG loss, let’s try 60% HP for T1 bursting – starting with Abu Simbel again then Malus.

Well then, hopefully this is an eye-opener that PnS-tier weapons are not always good nor are they instant-slots for a specific element, I could see this extending towards Water too in the not-too-distant future. I will let Cendol do the testing on Magna.

Verdict

Now that we got to this point, should you still spark it? As it is right now, unless you want to future proof yourself for what meta Wind will shift to next or you have a wind Sky Piercer, Galewings are just in a really awkward spot right now, and I would rather recommend you spark for Celine Dions (get at least 2 copies) before you even go for your first Gale copy (if you haven’t gotten one by this point) as the boosts from Celine Dion are way more noticeable vs Gale. So far the only use case where Gales could be good in your grid would be EX+ OTK, and for EX+ Tag Team setups as well.

TL;DR: 1st Gale trades raw damage for more cap up (yes you want to run Malus alongside it), 2nd Gale is pretty worthless. Not worth the spark, just get Clams instead – the boosts from Clams are much bigger and more noticeable vs Gales.

Grand Weapon Spark Priority: 1st Clam > 2nd Clam > 3rd Clam (better future proof weapon vs Gale as well) > 1st Galewing

* This assumes you have Evanescence already because why would you be playing this element without Naru, otherwise Eva gets put at the highest priority.
